Mazzega Murano Glass
Mazzega Murano glass chandelier featuring the “sommerso” glass technique, c. 1970. The sommerso technique creates a textured effect reminiscent of cracked or molten glass. This is achieved by carefully cooling the molten glass so that cracks form on the surface while the inside remains intact. All the glass elements were hand-blown in Italy, giving the chandelier its distinctive appearance. The chandelier is fitted with six E14 sockets and is fully functional.

Angelo Vittorio Mazzega, a visionary glassmaker, founded his company in 1946 with the ambition of becoming a leading force in the world of Murano glass.
Mazzega 1946 has deep roots in the Venetian glassmaking tradition, combining a rich heritage of craftsmanship with a strong focus on innovation and modern design. Over more than seven decades, Mazzega 1946 has preserved the art of handmade glass while creating space for innovation and contemporary design.
Its collaborations with international designers and distinctive forms have resulted in an impressive collection of chandeliers. These cross the boundaries between art, tradition and modernity.
This Mazzega Murano glass chandelier is an excellent example. Mazzega Glassworks is based in Murano, Italy. Mazzega’s exceptional glassmakers, artists and designers have played an important role in the development of Murano glass throughout the 20th century. Mazzega Murano is known for its impressive glass lighting, often handmade, as well as its spectacular chandeliers and pendant lamps.
Designers associated with Mazzega include Loredano Rosin, Toni Zuccheri, Aldo Nason, Carlo Nason and others. Today, Andrea Mazzega continues the family tradition with a line of contemporary glass under the A.V. Mazzega name.
