Rocket Table Lamp
Leoš Nikels’ Rocket table lamp was designed for Zukov in the former Czechoslovakia. This is an iconic example of the “Brussels Style” from Eastern Europe. The glass is dark ivory and held in place by brass-plated metal rods. The lamp is in very good vintage condition considering its age. It is 100% original and fully functional. The glass is intact and free from damage, which is particularly rare for this design.

A bit of history:
Leoš Nikels’ Rocket table lamp is an example of what became known as the “Brussels Style”. The name originates from the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair (Expo 58), where Czechoslovak design received international recognition for its innovative and optimistic character, with the “Golden Star” and 13 other awards.
The “Brussels Style” influenced almost every type of consumer product, from furniture and glassware to lighting. Artists and designers were given greater freedom to work directly with manufacturers, who were responsible for the mass production and distribution of these design products.
Round, organic or geometric forms appeared on objects in pastel colours and subtle structures made from laminated materials, aluminium or glass. In contrast to the angular forms and static styles of the pre-war period, the so-called Brussels Style introduced lightness, elegance and vibrant colours. The historical context and atmosphere, developments in science and technology, and the optimism surrounding the future were all important factors behind the Brussels Style.
Overall, the style was seen as an expression of “soft modernism” and an optimistic vision of the future, which came to an abrupt end in August 1968 with the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia.
