German Pressed Glass
Two large and heavy Space Age wall lamps made of thick pressed glass, produced in Germany in the 1960s. They can be used as either wall or ceiling lamps. The lamps have been fully rewired with new sockets and electrical wiring. The glass is in perfect condition, with no chips or damage. The textured pattern in the glass reflects the light in a unique way, creating a striking visual effect. These wall lamps work both with a concealed electrical connection and with exposed wiring. A bit of history:
During the 1960s and 1970s, pressed glass experienced a new surge in popularity, particularly in lighting design and interior decoration, driven by the growing interest in Space Age design. This period was characterised by experimentation with new materials and forms, strongly influenced by scientific research, technological developments and the fascination with the future.
Space Age design drew inspiration from science fiction, the space race and visions of a futuristic lifestyle. Pressed glass fitted perfectly into this movement because of its ability to be moulded into intricate, geometric and often unusual forms. Patterns resembling crystalline structures, stars or bubbles were particularly characteristic of the period, with the light reflected through the glass creating an almost dreamlike, mystical effect.
